James 1
1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings.
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
7That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord;
8he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does.
9The brother in humble circumstances ought to take pride in his high position.
10But the one who is rich should take pride in his low position, because he will pass away like a wild flower.
11For the sun rises with scorching heat and withers the plant; its blossom falls and its beauty is destroyed. In the same way, the rich man will fade away even while he goes about his business.
12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
13When tempted, no one should say, "God is tempting me." For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
16Don't be deceived, my dear brothers.
17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20for man's anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
26If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives himself and his religion is worthless.
27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Ja 1:22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
What a simple and direct life instruction! Do what it says! Biblical Christianity is not a ‘works’ based religion - get salvation by doing good works, Jesus has done the work of atonement for ALL sin. Rather, this command allows us one form of evidence, ‘fruit in keeping with repentance,’ that confirms God has given us a new heart from which all good things come! Not to be saved but because we are saved people will know we are His by our actions directed by the Spirit! Thank You LORD for Jesus and the new hearts You provide us. Guide us today to respond by doing what You say as a testimony to You and for Your pleasure today!
I love this chapter!
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Whenever I read this verse it always reassures me. In our lives we will always have many ups and downs. But when we are down, God is using those times for us to grow and develop perseverance. Every time we face a tough time, we need to be happy and know that God is using it to make us keep going and not give up. And when we get through it, it will make us stronger.
This is great chapter!!
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. —
Whenever we face any trials we should be glad because then we would be putting our faith to the test and we can stand up for what we believe in! We don’t have to be angry when we are going through trials because God loves to see us standing up for our faith and after we go through that it will give us perseverence to keep focus on God!!
Had an awsome time at TNN!! see everyone this weekend!! :)
14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
These verses are very specific in what they tell us to do. A major downfall of every human is temptation. In no way can we avoid it, but if we do give in, then we will burn in Hell. In the beginning of the chapter, James writes that the trials in our Christianity are good, to develop perseverance, and temptations are part of those trials. Verse 22 is a reminder to us all-Do not just go to Church, read the Bible, and go to TNN, apply everything you learned during those times to your life.
I enjoyed reading this chapter. Some of the verses had a great meaning. Like verse 22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says I like this verse because it says to me that if we just listen to gods word but we don’t live it out in our lives then we are lying to ourselves. It is like as it says in the chapter verse 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like, it is like this because you listen to it then you totally forget about it and if someone claims they are a christian and they are doing this then they are not. This is the message that we have to keep in check with our christian family.
ELLO…I red
I like verses 12 &19,”Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him. My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.”
I like these verses because they tell how we are not supposed to give in ever to a trial. If you do you regret it for life or at least a really long time. However if you pass the trial you are relieved and completely amazed and you should be thanking GOD. We do not be tested in vain we are rewarded we will receive crowns in heaven which HE promises to us. I also like these verses because they say that we should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger. I need to work on well pretty much all of these because I am not slow to anger or to speak. I kind of like to retaliate when someone does something I don’t like. I think that I might need to work on that a little.
CYA
God wants us to follow him with our life. In we are going to be successful in doing that we need God to help us. We need wisdom to discern what the Lord would want us to do and what does not want us to. God promise to give the wisdom we need (verse 5),
“If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him. ”
All we need to do is ask and believe that he will give us wisdom and he will! That is pretty cool. I hope that we all would remember to ask God for the wisdom that we need to live a life that will honor him.
19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
What a great chapter! I especially liked these verses because they say some very important instructions on how to deal with anger. It also says that an angry person’s life does not please God. Anger is another trial that we have to overcome but once you get past it it makes you a stronger person. If I can remember this verse the next time that I am angry then it will help calm me down and try to listen more to the person I am having a conflict with.
I had Late Start today!!!!! I love the book of James!!!!! There were so many incredible verses!!!
James 1:2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. Although we may not like them, trials and tests are good because they grow us, especially in perseverance. When we think that we are down and out and can’t go on, we need to remember that God can always give us the strength we need to keep pressing on and to not give up. 1 Corinthians 10:31 says, “So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” We need to always strive to give our 100% for the Lord in everything that we do. I need to stay optimistic through tough times because I know that it will develop my faith and help me to grow.
James 1:19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry, 20for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires. When someone does us wrong, instead of immediately responding to get them back, we need to not react but let it go and continue being kind to them. While our instant feeling might be to get them back, we need to not just live by our feelings. Our anger will not get anything good done, and it even causes harm. This is an area in my life that I really need to work on. Normally, I am a calm person who doesn’t really get angry that much, but I have trouble controlling my anger against a couple people. We all need to work on not being easily angered, but instead responding with love. I need to work on being kind to everyone and not letting my anger loose on anyone. MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!! In Christ, SEE
GOOOOOOODDD MOOOORNING!!!! :)
i read…
5If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.
6But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
these verses are saying that when you are a christian and you lack something, ask God for it. But when you ask Himf for it, know that He will give it to you dont doubt His power. Because He is a generous God!

***REMEMBER*** THE REVIVAL HAS ONLY JUST BEGUN!!!!!!!! :)
sorry short post today!
This was a really good chapter. I liked so many verses! 3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. - I need to work on perervering. whenever we face chalenges I need to remember that it is God allowing satan to test me. there are a lot of other great verses but i need to go.
Wow, this chapter was really great!
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. I liked this verse because it reminds us that we need to apply God’s word to our lives. We can’t just read it, do nothing with it and just forget about it.. Because that won’t be any help.
23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
this is something that i have been working on, not just reading the Bible and forgetting what it says but taking all what the Lord has told me and applying it to my every day life. i mean honestly if you looked in the mirror and saw that you had dirt all over your face and then turned around leaving it there and went through your day? no, i know all of you would wipe down your face so it was clean and keep on making sure you dont have more dirt on your face through out the day. this is also what we need to do. if we see dirt on our face, which is sin and do nothing about it then we are still sinning and not growing to be more like Christ. we need to wipe the dirt off, repent of our sins, and strive be more Christ like.
Yay Joy…Yay Annie way to get a jump on our contest and be blessed by God’s Word at the same time!!!:) How do we choose!!!!????? This whole chapter is full of application and comfort!!! This chapter has completely changed my attitude about trials. I used to pray that God would protect me from going through hard stuff in my life and now that I have experienced things that I thought I would have prefered not to experience….I changed my mind. God shows us His provision through trials and matures our faith and that should be our desire. I totally get why I am to consider trials pure joy because He has shown me He will bless me and take care of me and bring Glory to Himself at the same time. My attitude has changed to I feel honored when He uses my life to further His kingdom even when its not easy. I love seeing how when I let Him work it out, He is faithful and I get to see His Hand in it all. And it truly does bring me joy and peace!!! Trials also give us confidence that the next one coming He will also be right with us taking care of us and providing for us and comforting us. Therefore we don’t live anxiously!!! OK I’m starting to ramble. I love the book of James!!!! :)
Last night was fun girls!!! See you all this weekend!!! xoxo
Oops…missed you Sabrina, glad to see you posted already too!!! Good job!!
Good morning everyone! =) I read this morning!
James 1 . . . ( Hebrew’s ended, =( Oh well! )
Ok . . . so there wasn’t a favorite verse for me! But so what! =) THE WHOLE CHAPTER WAS EXCELLENT! =)
I loved everything in it, all the lessons and reasons of several questions and answers. Some of the verses that I just had to post were these, “12. Blessed is the man who prerseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” Meaning : when you are under presure, yet struggling your hardest to live stricltly for God and for no one else, God will crown us with the “crown of life” to the people God loves. Also, another verse that I just had to post is, “22. Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says!”
Meaning : when reading “Chapter of the Day,” don’t just fool yourself into thinking that your spiritually getting fed by just reading the chapter, yet in reality your thinking of something totally different! I know this is something I need to work on, however I am trying my hardest and am getting a better at it! Whenever I start thinking about what I should wear, or what I’m doing for the day, I right away get distracted from God’s word and stray! Then, I catch myself and say that I need to read over what I missed and this time INTENTLY read it over and get it! We also not really need to “get” what the chapter might say, but we also need to APPLY it to our lives! =)
James 1 was a really good Chapter to read! It’s almost like Hebrews in telling you the reasons for the things God’s done or is going to do! And where certain people will spend eternity! =) So with saying that . . .

What a powerful chapter. We could spend weeks talking about this one!
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
I don’t know about you, but I don’t actually like trials. I’ve been going through one for years now (a sleep disorder) so this verse speaks to me. I can’t say I consider it “pure joy”, but I do see God’s sovereign hand in my life. I am called to persevere and have joy in my life while I’m sufferring. I know in my heart that God is working in me and growing my faith through my trial. (also, I depend on him more and more).
13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
This is so true! Sin starts as a thought that we don’t get rid of. Then after thinking over it, we act and that leads to our fall.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been a christian, this verse is true for everyone. Every day I have the choice to follow Christ or follow my own desires. Just knowing what God wants is not enough. We are to follow Christ.
I read…
James 1 - How many times do our parents get upset with us when they ask us to do something and we don’t do it. The problem with all people is, that we hear the commands from our parents, but we aren’t listening to them, for if we were truly listening to them, we would obey them and do what they say.
The same goes for God’s Word. We either read it or hear a sermon from a teach on God’s Word, but rarely do people put it in to action. God’s Word and teaching isn’t there for us to just hear it and give an applause, but rather there to change our lives so that we are glorifying him with our thoughts, words, and actions.
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.”
When studying God’s Word or listening to a sermon, lets not be the man who sees imperfection in his life and ignores it. When we see sin in our lives, lets get rid of it, like as one who pops a pimple on their face.
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
i liked these verses because they tell us why God lets us get tempted, it is because like verse 3 says “the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”
and then verse 4 explains what we can use perseverance for.
c u tonight :)
I like verses 2-4!!!
As Christians we will face trials in our everyday lives. But we should think of this in a high way. When we are going through hardships, it is to make us stronger! We need to realize that all we go through will make us stronger spiritually. Our trials make us more mature and grown up in our faith!!! These verses are great to think about when you are enduring hardships for your faith!!!
TNN was so fun!!! I hope evryone loved it as much as I did!!! :)
I love the book of James!!!!! it has so many great verses and challenges!!!!! I have a few verses I would like to comment on
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
All of us are going to face trials one day for our faith James here reminds us that when we face persecution that it is a good thing because it develops perseverance plus we know we are serving God when we are being persecuted because of this I hope that none of us will ever be afraid of being persecuted for our faith
13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;
14but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed.
15Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.
17Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.
18He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.
These verses reminded me about the goodness of God because we should never think that God tempts us because He doesn’t and it is our own desires that tempt us and get us into trouble instead God has given us many great gifts and sent His own Son down to die for us I would like to encourage people to stop sometimes and just think about just how great our God is
21Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and the evil that is so prevalent and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save you.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
23Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror
24and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
25But the man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard, but doing it—he will be blessed in what he does.
last verses I’m gonna comment on this is a great reminder from James that we can’t just see our sin and do nothing about it we instead need to try and stop sinning and follow God of we continue sinning even if we know it’s wrong it’s even worse than sinning out of ignorance we all need to try and improve ourselves and we all need to strive to be more like God
TNN was awesome last night!!! MARANATHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! COME O LORD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wow I think that’s my longest post anyways c ya this weekend
Whats up, GOOD TO SEE MY FELLOW FANATICS ON HERE YEAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
James 1:13-15When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone; but each one is tempted when, by his own evil desire, he is dragged away and enticed. Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full grown, gives birth to death. This is so convicting that we should not be tempted by anything the world has to offer but to stand firm in Christ and to remember to not do it. Like Miyoshi said that last night James said that we can’t just see our sin but we should try to stop it.
C U @ CHURCH THIS WEEKEND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
12Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.
We need to stand strong when the storms of life try to blow us away! In this verse we are promised to receive the crown of life to all of those who persevere under trial.
19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
My parents used to repeat these verses to us six kids growing up! ‘Be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry.’ These are good guidelines in all we do! Whether we are responding to our teachers, parents, friends, bosses, or our heavenly Father, we need to be great listeners but THINK before we decide to respond. It’s easy to respond out of anger when things don’t go our way, but if we take a deep breath and think before we react, we are more likely to respond in a righteous way that is pleasing in the sight of God.
Bobbie I liked your response about verses 5 and 6! Wisdom is one of the most important aspects to our Christian life. In my personal life, it is something I continuously ask God for. Having wisdom is so important and when we ask for it, we must remember to be ready for God to bless us with that request! As you stated, when we ask for wisdom we need to be confident that He is a generous God and has the power to give it to us!
Bobbie and Shani–It is a great example to see you both on here so consistantly every day!! We need to encourage the other girls in our TNN small group to do the same!
UH OH:(:(:(
I tried to post my comment but it wouldn’t let me. It was the longest post that I’ve ever done and now it’s gone.:(:(:(
I will say that it was a great chapter though. I don’t have enough time to repost the comment again though because I have too much homework.
C U all @ church on Saturday.
Janie and Holly’s group!!!!!
Wow!!! What a POWERFUL Verse!!!!
It is all good to have perserverance in our lifes. 4Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. We (everyone) must also be complete on spreading God’s Word. 6Must believe and not doubt. I know all of us can lack the Word of God!!!
~~~~~~~~Rachel~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
See you all at Saturday Service!!
AHHH! this chapter is SOOO amazing. seriously…i know that i say that alot and everyone says that alot, but this really is so incredible. James is most defently one of my favorite books of the Bible because it has alot of really GOOD examples, but also it totally makes sence. i memorized this whole chapter about a year ago…and it has been so helpful, it truly comes into my head ALL the time. i would encouage anyone to memorize this if your gonna memorize books of the Bible! :)
almost all of these verses bascially stood out to me but one that most applies to me i think would be verses 2 and 3:
2 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”
really just if your read those SO intently…like WOW…i just dont know what to say! God is just so amazing, He says when you go through trials, consider it JOY, because it makes you a stronger christian. i know we have all heard that before, but seriously…
also verse 12:
“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
that kinda has to do with the one i said before, but this is really an encouaregment to just trust in GOd to help us get through it…ya know. we store up treasures in heavan. when we get to heavan we want to hear “well done you good and faithful servant” dont we?! God works everything for the good of those who love Him, so lets just trust in Him and trust that He will get us through all hard times…because He will.
isaiah 41:10 says:
“Do not fear for Iam with you, do not be dismayed for Iam your GOD, I will streanghten you and help you, I will uphold you wwith my righeous right hand.”
that is one of my favorite verses, this too is a great reminder that God will hepl us through…
NOO NEED TO WORRY!! :)
thank you Jesus, for you amazing love!
I Love Verse 2-3 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.”This verse reminds and reassures me that when we are going through tough times or trials in our life that we need to grow the most and put every single piece of what we have to Him and let Him take total control. When we are going through tough times with family or friends, first everything might seem like it’s all going so bad and just wrong, but when we put our trust and give it all to Him, those are the times when he strengthens us the most. From looking back at the tough and worst times, i thought at that point, makes me now realize that those were the best times that i grew the most in Christ, learned from my mistakes, and put more of my trust and faith in Him. He has a plan and purpose for everything and we need to lean and let Him direct us in every situation!
Verse 23 says ” Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediatley forgets what he looks like” this means that when we read the Bible and call ourselves Christians we need not to forget to show it through our actions so non-christians can see a difference in us and want to have Christ #1 in their life!
I read…
James 1
I liked verses 2-3… “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Sometimes when trials come upon me I want God to take them away as all of us do. But, we should take these trials as lessons from God because they will help us grow in our faith and help get us into a more personal relationship with God. Trials are difficult to go through so when we go through them we need to ask God to be with us at all times during these times of harships. I pray that I will ask god to face trials with me when they arise.
Pastor Luke, you did a great job at our chapel today. Many people at my school think they are Christians but in reality they aren’t. I am glad that you have revealed to them that they are not and they need to repent and put their faith in God.
Way to post Anabelle!
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.” This is more emphasis on what Pastor Luke preached on today at CVCS, if we are claiming to be “Christians” we need to be doing what God’s Word says! If it is written in God’s Word, it is there for us to read, memorize and make a part of our daiy life, not forget about it or never open it up. God has given us His Word, why wouldn’t we be more addicted to reading that then lets say…. “Twilight?!” If God is revealing Himself to us we need to read it and digest it. We need to represent Christ and not say one thing and do another.
Grace, Lauren, Summer, & Anabelle- Very good job on posting! <3 YoU!
I read…
James 1
“Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” When being tempted, I am constantly thinking of this verse, because it gives me a reminder of the rewards to come if I perservere and do not fall to temptation.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” If we just read our Bible, and listen to sermons, but not do what the Bible says, then their is no spiritual growth and we are gaining nothing. But if we do what the Law says and continue to follow it, while encouraging others to do the same, then there is great spiritual growth.
This chapter was ammmazzzing!!! There were so many amazing versus this time too!
I really liked…
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance
- We are tested every single day and we will not always “pass”, because we are just human, but we need to keep pushing and trying no matter how hard.
13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone
- This is something new I learned. I always thought God would temp up, but he does no such thing. he just watches for our reaction.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
- This is so simple, yet really hard. We are not doing ourselves any justice by just reading the word, we need to live it out! Everyday!
All in all this verse just explains how we will be temped, if we turn away we will be rewarded. Live for god, there will be a reward (eternal life with God). And some poeple will, unfortunately, not “pass” and they just live for themselves and focus on their life now, but that’s not what metters. They are selfish and foolish, and they will see. I LOVE THIS CHAPTER!!!
13When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone
- This is something new I learned. I always thought God would temp up, but he does no such thing. he just watches for our reaction.
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
- This is so simple, yet really hard. We are not doing ourselves any justice by just reading the word, we need to live it out! Everyday!
All in all this verse just explains how we will be temped, if we turn away we will be rewarded. Live for god, there will be a reward (eternal life with God). And some poeple will, unfortunately, not “pass” and they just live for themselves and focus on their life now, but that’s not what metters. They are selfish and foolish, and they will see
sorry, I sent it twice, my computer is having some issues :)
Oh my gosh!!! I love this chapter!! James is my favorite book of the Bible. First, I liked verses 2-4……..
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
Every time you are being tested you should actually be really happpy because Gos is making you more mature. Because if everything went exactly the way you wanted it to, you would be really selfish. The testing of our faith will also make us consistent in making pleasing choices for God. So don’t ever complain when you are being tested! =) Next I liked verses 19 & 20…..
19My dear brothers, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak and slow to become angry,
20for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires.
Before we speak, we should always ask ourselves “is what I am going to say pleasing or unpleasing?”. This verse says it is better to just listen because then a rude word or comment won’t even come out of your mouth. At the end of the verse it says for man’s anger doesn’t bring the righteous life that God desires. So when we are angry, it is probably best just to keep our mouths shut! Finally I liked verse 22……..
22Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
Instead of just listen to the word, we also have to do what it says. It is no good if we just read God’s word and then don’t even listen to it. We should always live it out!!
“blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.”
According to this chapter we should not dread trials so much! they are certainly to our benefit in helping us grow and also in the sense of eternal rewards. Its good to be reminded what our perspective on trials should be.
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
3because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
4Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.
i like these verses because it says we should be joyful when we go through trials because we grow in our faith and we don’t lack anything. it is always hard to be joyful when we are in trials but that gives us a chance to trust in God which grows our faith!!
if we lack anything God comands us or wants us to have, than we need to ask him and he will provide it for us! but if we don’t that he will then it is useless and we are like a wave that just gets blown in the wind. if we persevere through all trials we will recieve the crowm from God that we are promised if we love him. God never tempts us!
i love love love James!! :)
11 The sun rises. Its burning heat dries up the plants. Their bloooms fall. Their beauty is destroyed. In the same way, a rich will fade away even as he goes about his business.
I like this verse because it says that if you are rich your money isn’t worth anything after we leave earth. It will go away and no one will ever notice that you were rich on earth.
I read and loved it! I especially liked verses 19-26. These verses show me to not be quick tempered and to act out Gods Word
I hope to see everyone at church!
I absolutely love the book of James it is my favorite book in the bible and the first chapter has so many practical wisdoms we can apply to our lives!
2Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds,
Like Francesca said, trials make our faith stronger, they grow us closer to God and build our character! This verse encourages me to keep on living for God even when faced with difficult trials. When we respond to trials in the right way God will bless us by making us more like Him. It’s also comforting to remember that God is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort and He comforts us in our trials so that we know how to comfort people who go through similar trials (2 Cor 1:3-4).
I also like this verse……22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
This verse is still so relevant today. It’s imperative that we dont just go to TNN or The Narrow on the weekend and just hear what pastor Luke says but that we actually make it apart of our lives. Especially when we read our bible with God’s instructions to us. If we ignore what the Bible tells us to do then we are telling God that we don’t care what He says and James says we are deceiving ourselves. Later on in this book, James will say that faith without works is dead. Although we know we can’t earn salvation through good works, they are evidence that we have truly repented and are trusting Christ alone to save us from our sins. God will help us to apply what we learn to our lives and He will give us the wisdom to live a life that is beautiful in God’s sight, all we have to do ask Him!
I am so glad to see your post, Lexi! I love the verses you commented on and your comments on them were right-on. Nice Job!!
