The Bible repeatedly calls the principal leaders of the church by three descriptive names. All three of these titles are used synonymously in the New Testament and help to communicate the job of these men who together provide spiritual direction and administrative oversight for the church. The first Greek word is episkopos which is translated “overseer” or “bishop” (Ac.20:28; 1Tim.3:1). The second word is poimen which is translated “pastor” or “shepherd” (1Pt.5:2; Eph.4:11). The third word is presbuteros which is translated “elder” or “presbyter” (Tit.1:5; James.5:14). These interchangeable terms describe one office which is to be occupied by gifted, trained, and qualified men who will sacrificially lead Compass Bible Church. Here is our current team of overseer-pastor-elders.
