Application Questions:

1. Read Psalm 90:10-12. While the historical context of this psalm of Moses is unique to his generation, the truth of gaining wisdom by considering the brevity of our lives is universally helpful. What are some of the godly insights you can gain by pondering the fact that your life is temporal, and all of its opportunities are fleeting?

2. Read Ephesians 5:15-17. As a Christian, how does an awareness of the moral state of our society help you to make the “best use of the time” that God is currently supplying you?

3. Read 2 Thessalonians 3:11-13. The “idleness” in view here initially pertains to people not working for their own living (cf. v.10), but v.13 reminds us that you could be making a living and still not diligently invest and prioritize “doing good” in what you do to earn your paycheck. How might you increase “doing good” in your life?

4. Read 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 and 1 Corinthians 3:11-15. Give a few examples of the use of your discretionary time which could be placed in each of the two categories—combustible and non-combustible.

5. Read 1 Peter 4:10-11. How does this passage motivate your joyful investment in eternally important things?
